What's new
Every release of greensound since the first one you could listen to, newest first, in plain words. Past entries are not rewritten. When one turns out to be wrong, a correction is added to it.
Find a sound by type, share it, and pink noise
v0.14.0 · October 1, 2026
- Six buttons above the sounds, All, Rain, Water, Night, Dawn & birds and Noise, show only the kind you want. A sound that is playing keeps playing when its button hides it.
- Pink noise joins green, brown and white: a steady hiss, darker than white and brighter than brown, made in your browser. It has its own page, and like any one sound it plays free for fifteen minutes.
- With Pro, "Your mix" now sits right under Sleep, Focus and Relax, so your layers are at the top. Tapping a sound further down no longer makes the page jump under your thumb.
- A Share button at the top opens your phone's share sheet with the page's link, or copies the link where there is no share sheet. Nothing records who shared.
- The bottom of every page is now four short lists: Nature sounds, Noise types, Uses and About.
Each real place has its own colour and shape
v0.13.0 · October 1, 2026
- Every real recording now shows a small shape beside its name: how loud the loop is from start to end, measured from the recording itself. It is not a photo or a drawing of the place.
- Each place has a faint colour of its own: wetland, shore, rain and cenote. It shows on its card and as a soft glow at the top of its page. The noises stay neutral, and green still means "on".
- A sound page shared in a message now shows that shape in its colour.
- The small grey place names on the cards are a touch lighter, so they are easier to read.
greensound Pro: the full mixes, all night, seven days free
v0.12.0 · September 30, 2026
- Any one sound, real recordings included, now plays free for fifteen minutes, with no account. The padlocks are gone.
- greensound Pro adds the full Sleep, Focus and Relax mixes, up to six sounds layered, and timers from thirty minutes to all night. It costs $5.99 a month or $39.99 a year, with seven days free the first time.
- A calm sheet explains Pro when you reach for a mix, a second sound or a longer timer. "Not now" changes nothing.
- You pay on Stripe's own page; greensound never sees your card. One cookie remembers your Pro in this browser, and the anonymous listening counts never carry it.
- "Manage Pro" at the bottom of every page opens Stripe's page to cancel, change your card or see receipts. Cancelling keeps Pro until the period you paid for, or your free week, ends.
- Changing phone or browser? Write to info@stellartech.xyz from the email you paid with, and we'll send you a link that turns Pro back on.
- 10% of what you pay us goes to conservation, starting with Ría Lagartos, and every transfer will be published.
Every page now says what changed most recently
v0.11.0 · September 30, 2026
- The bottom of every page now has one quiet line, "What's new", naming the latest release. It is read from these notes, so it can never be out of date or say more than they do.
- Tapping it opens a new page listing every release since the first working version, newest first, in the same words as here.
- Nothing about the mixer or the sounds changes.
Pause always means silence
v0.10.2 · September 30, 2026
- Fixed: after a phone call or Siri interrupted greensound, pressing Play on the lock screen could start a second copy of every sound on top of the first, and Pause then stopped only one of them. Play on the lock screen now simply resumes what was playing.
A stuck database can no longer freeze the site
v0.10.1 · September 30, 2026
- If the database ever accepts a request and then goes silent, the site now gives up on it within four seconds instead of waiting forever. Before, ten such requests in a row could leave the sounds, the recordings and the listening counts hanging until the server restarted.
- Nothing changes when the database is healthy, and there is nothing new to see or tap.
The home page says what greensound is
v0.10.0 · September 30, 2026
- The home page now opens with "Real places, for sleep.", one sentence saying what you'll hear (nature sounds recorded in Mexico, over a soft, steady noise), and "Free · no account · no ads".
- Sleep is lit and ready the moment the page appears. One tap on Play starts night wetland over brown noise, all night, with nothing flickering or switching first.
- The bar at the bottom names the mix ("Sleep") and, once it plays, who recorded it and where: "Recorded by Felix Blume · near Felipe Carrillo Puerto".
- The timer buttons and volume slide in after your first Play, so the first screen shows only what you need. On a laptop the whole bar is one thin row.
- No padlocks while everything is free. The night wetland page answers "Is this sound free?" with "Yes."
Every page now answers the question it was opened for
v0.9.0 · September 28, 2026
- The eight sound pages grew from about 150 words to 300 to 400. Each opens with a short answer to its main question, then short sections headed by the questions people type: "Green noise or brown noise?", "How is it made here?", "Why only a month and year?". Every fact on them traces to the site's own code, the recording's source, or a decision record; nothing describes what a sound does to a person.
- The eight use pages (sleep, focus, study, meditation, relax, the nursery, travel, sleeping by day) were rewritten the same way, then cut back to only what can be sourced. They run 150 to 260 words, and their answers carry the rest.
- The nursery page gives no numbers, says plainly that a sound mixer cannot call a sound safe or good for a baby, and ends by pointing to a pediatrician.
- Each page now shows when its words last changed, and tells search engines the same.
- Tested on the way: a sound that has started keeps playing after the connection drops. The pages do not claim it yet; a later release may.
Five more pages: four real places, and Relax
v0.8.0 · September 27, 2026
- A page for each of the four recordings that had none: beach waves (surf at Punta Allen, Quintana Roo), jungle rain (near Uxmal, Yucatán), cenote bird (a motmot inside the Cho Ha cenote near Cobá) and far shore (distant surf at Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, recorded by Leonardo Santiago). Each says what you are hearing, who recorded it and where, and opens the mixer on that sound.
- A page for the Relax mix, greensound.app/for/relax: beach waves with green noise underneath, thirty minutes, lit and ready when the page opens.
- The night wetland page no longer says Pro sounds "arrive with the next release"; everything is open to play until the paywall exists.
- The pages now link to each other by place and by use, so a reader of the sleep page can find far shore, and a reader of the study page can find jungle rain.
- The sitemap grows to eighteen pages.
Where the sound comes from, and an about page
v0.7.0 · September 27, 2026
- Every sound and use page now says, in plain sentences under the text, where its sound comes from: who recorded it, when, and where, as far as the source says, with a link to the original recording on Freesound. A noise says it is made in your browser. Until now this lived only inside the tap-to-open info sheet.
- The same facts are given to search engines and AI answer engines in their own format, built from the very same catalogue rows, so a machine can never be told more than a person can read.
- A new page, greensound.app/about: what greensound is, what a field recording is, how recordings are chosen and credited, what CC0 means, what is counted and never sold, who makes it, and the 10% intention. It ends with every recording and its credit.
- Dates now read the American way everywhere, "October 30, 2015".
- Bing and the search engines that share its index (DuckDuckGo, ChatGPT search, Copilot) can now be told about new pages the day they go live.
A home of its own: greensound.app
v0.6.0 · September 27, 2026
- greensound now lives at greensound.app. The old address, greensound.vercel.app, forwards every page to the new one, so nothing anyone saved or shared is lost.
- Every page ends with a quiet footer: one sentence saying what greensound is, and a link to every sound and use page. Until now the home page linked to none of them, so a search engine could only find them through the sitemap.
- Browser tabs and shared links now say "Green noise · greensound" rather than just the page name.
- The home page carries a plain machine-readable description of what greensound is: a free web app, a sound mixer, made by greensound. It states only what is true today; there is no price because there is nothing to buy yet.
- Vercel Analytics now counts page views on the live site, without cookies, and only on the live site. Nothing about listening sessions changes.
- Search engines and AI answer engines are all welcome to read the public pages, on purpose.
- A stale automated test that expected the sound and use pages to be missing from the sitemap was corrected. They have been published since v0.3.1.
Sleep, Focus and Relax: one tap to a real place
v0.5.0 · September 27, 2026
- The home page now opens on three large buttons: Sleep, Focus and Relax. Each is a ready-made mix built around a real recording, with a soft noise underneath, at a set level and length. One tap starts it, and the noise plays at once while the recording arrives.
- Sleep: night wetland with brown noise, all night.
- Focus: jungle rain with brown noise, sixty minutes.
- Relax: beach waves with green noise, thirty minutes.
- Tapping another mix while one plays changes over with no silence and no click, and the countdown restarts at the new length. Tapping the mix that is playing pauses it.
- The mixer you know sits just below, under "Or mix your own", unchanged. Add or swap a sound by hand and the mix's light goes off: it is your own mix now. Sliders and the length leave it on.
- The sleep, focus, study and meditation pages open with their mix ready, and their words were corrected to match. Nothing on them claims a sound does anything to you.
- Each button says which recording and place it opens on, so a listener knows what is real before pressing anything.
- Free listeners, once the paywall arrives, get each mix cut down to its noise for fifteen minutes, with one calm line. Everyone on the live site is still Pro until then.
- The listening counts are unchanged: a mix's start already names its sounds and length, so nothing new is recorded.
- A small fix that came with it: a slider moved before the first press of play is now heard at that level.
- Your last mix is not remembered yet; that is the next small release.
Longer sessions, an app icon, and four more real places to listen
v0.4.0 · September 25, 2026
- Choose how long it plays: 15, 30, 60 or 90 minutes, or all night. You can change it while it plays, with no click or dip. The countdown includes the gentle thirty-second fade at the end, so fifteen minutes shows 15:30.
- Pressing play now brings the sound up gently over about four seconds instead of starting at full volume.
- Every length is open to everyone on the live site until the paywall arrives, like the rest of Pro. Free listeners will keep fifteen minutes after that.
- greensound now counts listening sessions anonymously, in a small table of its own. It records when a session starts and ends, how many minutes it ran, which length and sounds it used, and how it ended: the timer, pause, the lock screen or a closed tab. Nothing in it says who you are, where you are or what device you used. There are no cookies and nothing goes to anyone else.
- On an iPhone you can add greensound to your Home Screen. It opens like an app, with its own dark icon and green dot.
- Four more real field recordings:
- beach waves and jungle rain, from the Yucatán Peninsula;
- cenote bird, a motmot calling inside a cenote near Cobá;
- far shore, distant surf at Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, recorded by Leonardo Santiago. It is the first place outside the Yucatán, so the page now has a heading for Oaxaca.
- Two underwater recordings were tried and left out after listening: their clicks couldn't be tamed without flattening them.
- A new loudness rule brings quiet field recordings up to the same level as the rest without flattening their natural rise and fall. Beach waves is the exception: it plays about half as loud, to keep its waves natural. Push its slider to about 85% and it matches.
- The line under the recordings no longer says it credits the people who made them, because one of them has no name we can give.
- The ?debugTimer testing shortcut no longer works on the live site, as v0.1.0 promised.
A summary for search results and shared links
v0.3.2 · September 24, 2026
- Search engines now get a one-sentence summary of the home page, in the owner's own words: "Real places, for sleep: a sound mixer in your browser that layers credited nature recordings over soft noise, with a sleep timer and no ads."
- The same sentence now appears under the link when someone shares greensound in a message. Before, that space was empty.
- Nothing on the page itself changes, and each sound and topic page keeps its own summary.
- Correction, added later: the page itself did change in this release. The home screen was redesigned. It now opens on the real place, each recording credits who made it and where, the noises show their sound shape, and play, timer and volume sit in a bar at the bottom of the screen. It was not noted at the time.
Taste pass, and a fix for a rare freeze
v0.3.1 · September 23, 2026
- Sound buttons are bigger and easier to tap, and no longer clip their text on a phone.
- The eleven info pages are shorter and warmer — about a tenth the length they were, with the same safety notes.
- FAQs are tucked away until you tap them, and the volume sliders now show how full they are at a glance.
- If the database ever stops answering, the page now waits at most six seconds before falling back to the three free sounds, instead of hanging indefinitely. This only matters when something else is already broken.
Real recordings on the catalogue, and the first SEO pages
v0.3.0 · September 23, 2026
- Every sound and up to six layers are open to everyone on the live site until the paywall arrives, by the owner's decision. The padlock now only says which sounds will be Pro.
- The twelve script-made placeholder sounds are retired from the live site — a real field recording, "night wetland" from the Yucatán Peninsula, has taken their place, with more real recordings to follow. The line under the grid was corrected to say so; it had been left claiming the placeholders were still there.
- The home page now groups sounds under a heading for where they're from, real recordings first. Tap the small ⓘ next to any sound to see who recorded it, where, and when, and how it's licensed.
- New pages: one for each sound (starting with the three noise colours and "night wetland"), and one for each way people commonly use this mixer — sleep, focus, a nursery, studying, meditation, travel, and sleeping during the day. Each one preloads the mixer to the right sound and links to the others. A page about using sound to mask tinnitus was written and set aside instead of shipped — it kept drifting into claims about a hearing condition, which this product doesn't make about anything.
- The site now has a sitemap and a robots file, and every page gets its own preview image when shared on social media.
Catalogue, storage, layers
v0.2.0 · September 19, 2026
- Fifteen sounds to choose from: three noise colours plus twelve nature loops. The twelve are honestly labelled as placeholders made with a script, not real field recordings — the real ones from Ría Lagartos are still on their way.
- Twelve of them are marked Pro, and they stay locked for everyone on the live site for now; the paywall to unlock them arrives in the next release.
- On the preview link only, you can stack up to six sounds at once, each with its own volume slider plus one master volume slider for the whole mix. Tap a sound again to take it back out.
- Loops repeat seamlessly now — no click or gap where a loop's end meets its beginning.
- The lock screen shows the names of everything currently playing in your mix, not just one sound.
- The free experience is unchanged: one sound at a time, fifteen minutes on the timer.
Engine and free tier
v0.1.0 · September 18, 2026
- One page plays green, brown or white noise, made live in the browser as you listen, so nothing is downloaded and it never repeats.
- One big circle starts and stops the sound, three chips switch between the colours without a gap, and one slider sets the volume.
- A fifteen-minute sleep timer runs on its own, with the last thirty seconds fading gently to silence instead of cutting out.
- On an iPhone the sound keeps going when the screen is locked and when the mute switch is on, and play and pause appear on the lock screen.
- No account, no ads, no tracking — open the link and it works.
- Adding ?debugTimer=30 to the address shortens the timer to one minute for testing; this shortcut goes away in a later release.
